Privacy Policy

Who we are

EuroTrekker is an independent trip-planning service operated by DataValley (data controller). For privacy-related enquiries, contact us at hello@eurotrekker.com.

What we collect

• Account data — email address and password hash, collected when you create an account.
• Trip data — destinations, dates, interests, and pace preferences you enter when planning a trip.
• Usage data — anonymised analytics (pages visited, session duration, country-level location). We run self-hosted Matomo analytics with IP anonymisation enabled; no data leaves our servers and no advertising profiles are built.
• Server logs — standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) retained for up to 30 days for security purposes.

How we use it

• To generate and store your trip itineraries (contract performance).
• To authenticate you when you sign in (contract performance).
• To improve our routing and scheduling algorithms (legitimate interest).
• To detect and prevent abuse and security incidents (legitimate interest).
• We do not sell your data to third parties and do not use it for advertising targeting.

Cookies

We use one strictly-necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. Our analytics (Matomo) are configured without cookies in compliance with applicable privacy law. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are set.

Third-party services

• Map tiles — map imagery is loaded from a third-party tile provider. Your IP address may be shared with that provider solely to serve map tiles.
• Affiliate links — some booking links (e.g. Omio) are affiliate links. Clicking them may set a cookie on the booking site. We receive a small commission if you complete a booking; this does not affect the price you pay.

Data retention

Account and trip data is retained as long as your account is active. Server logs are deleted after 30 days. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing hello@eurotrekker.com.

International transfers

Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). We do not transfer personal data outside the EEA.

Your rights under GDPR (EEA & UK)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Erasure — request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
• Restriction — ask us to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Complaints — you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, or your national DPA in the EU).

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grant you additional rights:

• Right to know — request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• Right to delete — request that we delete personal information we have collected, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Right to opt-out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
• Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
